Austinite Youth amongst the winners at the 2010 World Youth

Congratulations to Emily Nguyen (a 3rd grader from Laurel Mountain Elementary), her parents, brother Anthony and Coaches Mike Feinstein & Eugene Kohnitz on her outstanding performance at the 2010 World Youth Chess Championships! !

Congratulations to Emily Nguyen (a 3rd grader from Laurel Mountain Elementary), her parents, brother Anthony and Coaches Mike Feinstein & Eugene Kohnitz on her outstanding performance at the 2010 World Youth Chess Championships! !

Emily came in 9th place (tied for 6th) and won 7.5 out of 11 games!! What an accomplishment!!!

Nearly 1400 players, from no fewer than 87 countries, gathered in the 2010 World Youth Chess Championships in picturesque Porto Carras, Greece, to compete for the titles of World under-8, under-10, under-12, under-14, under-16, and under-18 titles for both boys and girls. Many participants were already experienced in international competition.

Emily competed in the under-8 years age Girls section as part of the US Youth Chess team! The event took place in Greece from October 19 - October 31, 2010.

Congratulations Emily! You have made Austin proud!
