Austin Chess Club is a wonderful atmosphere for the mature, experienced chess player. Scholastic players are welcome, but expected to play quiet, serious chess. We suggest that scholastic players have reached a rating of 400 before participating. USCF membership may not expire before July 31, 2022.

We would like to start on-time. Please arrive early. Entries must be received and paid in full by 3:45pm. Online entry preferred.

Cost is $15/player. We would like the first round to begin at 4:00pm sharp. Doors open at 3:00pm, so please arrive early. Follow the signs to our meeting areas.

Please bring a set and a board and some patience as we get used to our new surroundings. We are looking forward to seeing everyone again and meeting new people!

  • Onsite Registration is 8:00-8:50 AM.  If you show up onsite without preregistering, there’s a chance the tournament will already be full.
  • Anyone not checked in by 8:50am will not be paired in round 1, unless you notify us (via email or text) that you are on the way.

Details

  • Please bring pieces and a clock if you have them! The club has limited supplies and we do not want to get caught without enough sets or clocks
  • US Chess Membership is required. Please be responsible for your membership prior to the event to help the organizers and prevent delays.
  • Notation is required.  Notation sheets and pens will be available if needed.
  • A donation jar will be available for players who want to help the church out for providing us with a venue.

2022 Waco Scholastic Chess Championship

Five* Sections: Championship, U1200, U800, U400, and Unrated.
* Sections may be merged in the event of low turnout.

Rounds and Time Control: Five Rounds. Swiss system (no elimination). G/30;d0.

Qualifications: Every scholastic player who is a member of the United States Chess Federation in good standing is eligible to participate in this tournament, regardless of geographic location. Entries are limited to the first 80 participants.

Entry Fee: $15 until July 9; $20 until August 6; $25 until September 3; and $30 thereafter.

Registration: Online registration may be processed on Eventbrite. All entry fees are refundable if requested by August 17th, minus the Eventbrite service fee. Registration closes at 5:00pm on September 16. No onsite registration.

Schedule: Round 1, 9:00am-10:00am; Round 2, 10:15am-11:15am; Round 3, 11:30am-12:30pm; Lunch Break; Round 4, 1:30pm-2:30pm; and; Round 5, 2:45-pm-3:45pm. The awards ceremony shall commence at a convenient time at or around 4:00pm.

Byes: Each player will be entitled to a maximum of one ½ bye if requested before the close of registration. Bye requests are irrevocable for prize purposes.

Notation: All players in the Championship and U1200 sections must notate their moves. Penalty –  five minutes time deduction. Notation sheets provided.

Prizes: Trophies to top scorers in each section. Plaques to top teams (schools and clubs) across sections. Medals to all players who complete round 5. 

Ratings: This tournament will use players’ regular over-the-board rating as shown on the September 2022 Supplement.

Spectators: Except for players with games in progress and our tournament directors/staff, no spectators allowed in the Tournament Hall during any round.

2022 NYOS Summer Chess Camp

Description: A full day, week-long chess camp hosted by NYOS Charter School.  Located on the north side of Austin, the camp is open to all scholastic chess players, and is run by Mr. Gary Gaiffe.

Campers will be broken into skill level groups.  Different topics will be covered depending on which group the camper is in.  From tactics to positional play, game analysis to variant play, the camp will be both instructional and entertaining.  The final day will include a camp-wide tournament.

Girls Beginner Chess Tournament

Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas

Description: This is a charity tournament in San Antonio for girls, with ALL proceeds being used to grow chess with chess programs at libraries and title one schools, and scholarships. There will be 5 rounds total. The tournament will be held on May 14th at 12pm and should finish around 3pm.

ACC USCF G/90 Standard Swiss

This slow swiss takes place over 3 weeks, with games on April 9th, April 16th, and April 23rd. G/90 with 30 sec. increment per move. 3 round Swiss. Sections dependent on turnout. EF: $15.00 all. Online registration and payment requested.

USCF membership must not expire before April 30, 2022.

Austin Chess Club is a wonderful atmosphere for the mature, experienced chess player. The event has the potential to run late. Scholastic players are welcome, but expected to play quiet, serious chess. One round may last upwards of 4 hours.

Last chance registration happens onsite 3:00-3:45pm on April 9th. No pre-registration for round 1 is necessary. Email pre-registration is accepted; however, online paymentis preferred! If you email to register, you must show up and pay no later than 3:45pm! First round begins at 4pm. Please be on time! Participants who wish to enter the tournament late may email Austin Chess Club. Late entry must be made (emailed) before 10am on Saturday, April 16th to secure a round 2 pairing.

Mathnasium 2022 Summer Chess Camp – Fantastic Finales!

Description:  A full-day, week-long chess camp, hosted by the Cedar Park Mathnasium from August 8 – 12, 2022.  Featuring Certified National Master Paul Chaplin. All scholastic players are invited to register!

Each camp features five exciting days of an immersive chess environment and a fun-filled focus on a special featurette highlight (description below).
