Monthly Chess at the Lake Travis Community Library

Join us twice a month for some chess! All ages welcome, but you should already know the very basics.

Open play for anyone who knows how to play and wants to practice and improve their skills.  Coaching during games to facilitate learning new skills while practicing and playing.

Every 2nd Thursday of each month – 5pm to 6:45pm
Every last Saturday of each month – 10:30am – 12:30pm.

No cost to participate.

On the last Saturday of each month, youth players in Austin have an open play opportunity at the Twin Oaks Branch of the Austin Public Library. Children of all ages and abilities and their accompanying adults are welcome. The group is intended for kids ages 5 and up.  Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Limited instruction is available to help beginners!

There is no fee for participation in the group.

Wednesday Meetup with the San Marcos Chess Club

Sunday afternoon Chess IRL. Drink and Play Chess!

Sundays at 1:00 – 3:00 pm. All ages welcome!  A community driven club for real chess with real people and real pieces!

Everyone is welcome! All skill levels, especially beginners & newcomers! This is meant to be a casual, fun, and chill community for all participants.

Chess is for everyone, therefore there will NEVER be any dues or fees required, ever! Donations in the form of communal chess sets & clocks, are welcome and would be very much appreciated. Chess IRL currently has 10 chess sets and 5 clocks. If events exceed that size then we will ask for participants to bring some extra sets.

Sunday Youth Open Play at the Cedar Park Library

The Cedar Park Library is moving!!! Chess should begin again in November…

Youth players in North Austin and Cedar Park have an open play opportunity at the Cedar Park Library. The group focuses on improving skills through contact with better players. Children of all ages and abilities and their accompanying adults are welcome. Sets and boards are provided, but you may bring your own equipment. Please bring clocks and notation sheets if you wish to use them.

Masks are optional. Players are seated with added spacing and hand sanitizer provided and usage encouraged.

There is no fee for participation in the group.

Monday and Friday Chess at the South Austin Senior Activity Center

In person chess has resumed at the South Austin Senior Activity Center, 10AM to 12PM Monday and Friday.  This is a twice weekly event.

Monday Night Chess at Dobie Mall

Our standard tournament is on break until January 13th. Happy Holidays!

Our usual schedule.
Monday evenings. The tournament begins at 7:30pm. Arrive early enough to check in. All ages and abilities are welcome! Cost is $1/player (please bring exact change); all entry fees given back as cash prizes.

We play an unrated 5 round standard swiss of G/10, 3 second delay. There is plenty of time for game analysis between rounds.

Bring a set and a clock if possible.

Monday night chess at Dobie Mall has been a hallmark of the Austin chess scene for more than 20 years. We look forward to seeing you!
