ACC USCF rated G/90 Standard Swiss

This slow swiss takes place over 4 weeks, with games on October 21, 28, November 4 and 11. One round per week for four weeks, not four separate events! G/90 with 30 sec. increment per move. 4 round Swiss. Sections dependent on turnout. EF: $20.00 all. Contact ACC to register late.

USCF membership must not expire before November 30, 2023.

Austin Chess Club is a wonderful atmosphere for the mature, experienced chess player. The event has the potential to run late. Scholastic players are welcome, but expected to play quiet, serious chess. One round may last upwards of 4 hours.

Last chance registration happens onsite 3:00-3:45pm on October 21st. No pre-registration for round 1 is necessary. Email pre-registration is accepted; however, online payment is preferred! If you email to register, you must show up and pay no later than 3:45pm! First round begins at 4pm. Please be on time! Participants who wish to enter the tournament late may email Austin Chess Club. Late entry must be made (emailed) before 10am on Saturday, October 28th to secure a round 2 pairing. Email for entry into later rounds.

The Austin Grandmaster Chess Academy is hosting an In-Person USCF Rated Tournament on November  18, 2023 from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM.  USCF Membership required.   Capacity: 52 players! *First 5 players above 1900 USCF to register get a minimum guaranteed prize of $50 if they finish all their games.

Austin Chess Club Winter Open 2024

Thank you to everyone who played! View the FINAL RESULTS!  The tournament has been the event has been rated by the USCF, and has been submitted to FIDE.

USCF rated swiss chess tournament on January 26-28, 2024.   We offer 4 sections and a guaranteed prize fund of $5000 and 30 Grand Prix Points. There will be 5 rounds in total with two schedules. The Championship section is FIDE rated.

Device Policy

Internet enabled devices must be turned off completely during play (not just on silent) and must remain in the player’s bag or face up on the playing tablets. Devices may not be removed from the playing hall during your game. Devices include phones, smartwatches, tables, etc. These may NOT be on the player’s person or leave the board during the games.  Penalties up to or including loss of game and removal from the tournament for violations of this policy. No notation devices will be approved for the FIDE section. Any notation devices in other sections must be reviewed and logged at chess control no later than 30 minutes prior to player’s first round to receive an approval card. Please review the US Chess Notation Device policy

Spectators, if allowed, must have devices turned completely off.

More Details

Bring your own board and increment capable clock if possible!

C.J. presents Chess in the Hill Country – Llano 2023 Open Chess Tournament

An hour west of Austin the asphalt turns to lush hills and sparkling waters.  Llano is located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country – only 72 miles northwest of Austin and 90 miles northwest of San Antonio! If your 6th grader attends an Elementary School, please contact the registrar for options. Organizer reserves the right to add or combine sections based on entries.

Please note: NOVEMBER 2023 ‘Regular’ OTB ratings will be used for pairing purposes. If no regular rating is available, then other USCF ratings (quick, blitz, online) can and will be considered for section placement.  FYI: Any event that takes place after October 18th will not affect your November supplement rating, as those events takes place after November ratings are calculated.

All players in this event must be in 12th grade (or lower). Adults, please register for the open event.

Open Section at the 2023 Winter NYOS Scholastic Chess Tournament

Results are available online and the event has been rated by the USCF.  Checks will be sent out later this week to all the winners. Thank you for playing!

USCF rated chess tournament on December 2, 2023 for adults and more advanced scholastic players. 4SS of G/45 +5.  Online Registration is now closed. Please register onsite ($50 regardless of age. Cash or venmo or credit. First round play requires registration and payment before 8:45am).

The NYOS Chess Club will offer concessions (cash or Venmo) in Building A in the CafeteriaBreakfast items and coffee will be available when you arrive. Snacks and drinks are available all day long. Cyclo will be offering Sesame chicken and veggie bowls for lunch, and Culvers will offer chicken tenders and grilled cheese for lunch as well as frozen treats  in the afternoon. The concession stand will be benefiting the NYOS chess club as well as the school itself.

Awards

Cash prizes (to winners in both sections, in the case of multiple sections), based on number of entries. Special trophies will be awarded to the highest scoring Family & Child teams  (Uncles, Aunts, Adult siblings, Parents, or Grandparents paired with at least one scholastic aged player.).

*If space permits, onsite registration on Saturday, 12/02 will be permitted, $50 regardless of age. Cash or venmo only. First round play requires registration and payment before 8:45am.

Withdrawals requested via email before 5pm on Wednesday 11/29/23 are eligible for a refund (minus a $10 service fee). No refunds for USCF memberships after purchased from the USCF. NO email/phone entries.

2023 Winter NYOS Scholastic Chess Tournament

December 2nd Scholastic chess tournament in multiple sections. G/25, +5 inc. Trophies and medals awarded.

The NYOS Chess Club will offer concessions (cash or Venmo) in Building A in the CafeteriaBreakfast items and coffee will be available when you arrive. Snacks and drinks are available all day long. Cyclo will be offering Sesame chicken and veggie bowls for lunch, and Culvers will offer chicken tenders and grilled cheese for lunch as well as frozen treats  in the afternoon. The concession stand will be benefiting the NYOS chess club as well as the school itself.

We will once again offer a Chess Puzzle/Problem Solving Contest! Beginning round 2, whenever your player has some extra time, send them and $5 (cash or Venmo) to Building 2, room 364.  They will have 20 minutes to complete a puzzle sheet. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in the following grade categories: K-1, 2-3, 4-5, and 6-12.

Basics

USCF rated chess tournament on December 2nd in multiple RATED scholastic sections: K-3 U300, K-3 U500, K-3 U800, K-5 U300, K-5 U500,  K-5 U800, K-5 U1000,  6-12 U600, 6-12 U1000, and K-12 Elite (for players rated 950-1399). Please note: all scholastic players rated 1400 and over must play in the Open section. View the Advance Entry List online. Please note, at the event pairings will be posted only online.  

This is a Swiss-system tournament, so everyone plays all day—there is no “elimination.” Players must know how to play the game of chess! We follow USCF rules including: touch-move, mandatory clocks if available, and notation. K-3 and younger sections are excused from taking notation. Eligibility

This is a rated tournament. You must have a USCF ID and your membership (can be purchased/renewed at check out or online with the USCF in advance of registration) . You can verify your USCF membership ID and expiration by visiting the USCF’s Member Services Area. Anyone can become a USCF member. Players new to tournament chess are welcome to play. Your USCF membership cannot expire before December 31, 2023. USCF memberships can be renewed/purchased at check-out. (New players in 3rd grade and below may request a non-member ID as a part of USCF’s Junior Tournament Player program during registration. JTPs ok in K-3 sections only.)

“Under” sections are only for students meeting the rating criteria. All players who are new to tournaments are eligible for their age appropriate ‘under’ section. (Look up your player’s rating here. Please email the registrar or ask your chess coach for placement information.
If your 6th grader attends an Elementary School, please contact the registrar for options. With enough registrations, any section may be divided into two sections. Sections with fewer than 20 entries may be merged into a similar section.

Please note: NOVEMBER 2023 ‘Regular’ OTB ratings will be used for pairing purposes. If no regular rating is available, then other USCF ratings (quick, blitz, online) can and will be considered for section placement.  Requests to play down will not be honored. FYI: Any event that takes place after October 18th will not affect your November supplement rating, as those events takes place after November ratings are calculated.

All players in this event must be in 12th grade (or lower).

Trophies to the top individuals in each scholastic section. Trophies to the top teams in all sections. Number of individual and team trophies will depend on number of entries. Chess medals will go to all players (excluding Open section) that finish the tournament with a positive score (3.0 & 3.5 points). Trophies to players scoring 4.0 and above. No teams in Open section, but special trophies will be awarded to the highest scoring Family & Child teams (Uncles, Aunts, Adult siblings, Parents, Grandparents, or coach paired with at least one scholastic aged player.)

CANCELLATION POLICY: If you do not wish to participate in our tournament after paying the entry fee, please email us at info@austin-chess.com no later than 24 hours in advance for a $35 refund. We reserve the right to charge a $15 service fee for cancellations. 

WITHDRAWAL POLICY: If you would like to withdraw from the tournament after it begins, please alert the tournament director and sign a withdrawal form in the lobby prior to leaving the premises. 

NO refunds will be issued after the tournament begins. 

NO-SHOW POLICY: There are NO refunds or credit for players who do not show up for their scheduled tournament matches.
